Date: 24-Jan-2002
Question: Dear sir

Please tell me what actually "medical transcrpition". In our town, that is Mangalore( Karnataka) some computer training institutes are started training on medical transcription with a fee ranges from Rs. 20,000 - 30,000 and duration from 4 months to 1 year. Is it worth taking training in that type of courses?

Answer: Medical transcription is a hot new IT field which is showing a great promise in India. It is expected to create over 3 lakh jobs in the next 5 years. Our site covers a detailed article about it at Medical Transcription

Lot of companies in India are setting up their certified MT centres, where they first train the students for 6-8 months. Trainees get a stipend of around Rs.3000/month. After the training, the student is paid around Rs.8000/month.

It is definitely worth taking it up as a career, but beware of institutes which are just taking advantage of the hype and charging exorbitant amount for this course.

All the best.
