Question: Respected Sir,
I<92>m a graduate in botany, zoology & chemisrty. Now I see my career coming to a dead end with this line. The only option which is with me is to go for UPSC exams but problem is that there is so much risk & I fear that if it somehow didn<92>t click then I<92>ll land no where after sometime.Earlier I cleared CDS exam 3 times but was not recommended in the SSB<92>s interview. This is creating a huge confusion in my mind that what should I do.

Now I<92>m very much inclined towards IT industry but the problem here with me is I can<92>t do MCA which is an essential criteria in this field as I don<92>t <91>ve maths background.i<92>m 24 now & presently <92>m persuing DNIIT course from NIIT which is a 2 years course. My course covers-
I sem-Programming Techniques,SQL 7.O,UML,HTML,Java .
II sem- Linux 6.0,OOPS C++,CGI,MS Windows NT Server 4.0,quality management.
III sem-Visual C++,Visual Basic 6.0, Software quality assurance
IV sem-Scripting,ASP,DHTML,XML,Solutions Architecture,.Softweare development lifecycle.
So far I<92>ve completed PAT,SQL,UML,HTML & <91>m doing Java.
1.should I go ahead with this new line?
2.What would be better option in these two-CS & IT?
3.How to go ahead with this, mean whether this diploma from NIIT would be able to get me a suitable job .
4.How to go abroad?
5 .Is Engineering background utmost necessary & no other qualification or talent matters?
6.what else is required to get success?
Please advise me,I<92>d be very greatly to you.
Thanking you
Regards
Vivek

Answer: Dear Vivek,
It is never too late, and your decision to get into the IT industry now is a good one. You should definitely go ahead with this. This DNIIT course structure seems to be covering a wide and varied software tools and technologies. At some point of time, you should decide which technology you find the most interesting, and then try to get an in-depth understanding of that. The best way to go in depth of your chosen area is to do lots of academic projects in that area. You should choose projects from Web/Internet, Databases, DBMS, Oracle, VC++ etc. Future is bright in any of the above stated areas.

No instititution can guarantee you a job. Its your hard work, dedication and skills which will get you a suitable job.

Again for going abroad, you need to be a master of a field, especially one which is in great demand. Work in that area for couple of years in India and then look for a job abroad.

Engineering is not at all necessary for success in IT arena. In fact there are more non-engineering professionals in IT than engineers.
