Subject: Making Career in IT industry
Date: 5-Feb-2002
Question: Dear Sir
I am an Graduate Electronic engineer with around 07 year experience in maintenance field, currently working with a reputed concern. I am crazy about the IT and desperately want to switch over in software field. I did Visual Basic and MS-Access 1.5 year back, but I could not do any project. But I am confident that if given, I can successfully execute any project. These days I am inclined towards the web development. Kindly guide me what should I do to achieve my goal of entering in IT industry? How is the scope of internet programming and what are job opportunities in this line? Would I be able to get in as an fresher and what would be starting salary, if I enter in IT industry now?

Regards
Umesh

Answer: Dear Umesh,
It is never too late to change your field and it is always great to get into what interests you most. For getting into IT, you have to finalize the field which interests you most. If it is web development, you can get into that. Even in Internet development, there are various technologies where you can make your career. It would be good if you surf around, find the area of specialization and pursue some course and project in that. The scope of internet programming and development is vast and is increasing very fast. The starting salary is in the range of 5-7K/month and mostly the relevant experience is counted in a new job.

All the best.
