Question: I have a B.Tech in Textile Technology and have worked as a Textile engineer
and Production Supervisor in India. I recently moved to Illinois, United
States and am having difficulty in finding a job. In India, I worked as
a Senior Production Supervisor at Nachmo Textile, Ltd (a division of Ashima
Textile Industries). At Nachmo Textiles, I was responsible for team responsible
to process fiber, yarn, thread, and textile dye and color chemicals. I
also have experience in testing chemicals and dyes for purity, shade matching,
etc. What careers should I pursue here? I do not have financial to change
occupation. Is there anything similar that I can work at here? For example,
a lab technician or a chemist. What other occupations should I consider?
What occupation do other Textile engineers take in the USA? |

Answer: Job situation in the US is unlike that
in India. Their supervisors have a different role. Our supervisors play
a different role. You were managing a very large responsibility. Level of
automation is low. Productivity norms are different. Work ethics and worker
behaviors are different. Local laws are different. Ways of handling worker
is different. Technology is different. Quality standards are different.
Safety norms and adherence culture is different. Thus, if you look at a
supervisory role, you may be a complete failure.
So, position yourself as an 'expert' rather than as a senior person for
success. There is little scope of a generalist in the US. Take help from professional
resume writers. Try Resume Edge or any other site for a professional Resume
and Cover Letter Help. Being mobile, flexible on salary can be useful also. |
