Subject: Professional course for Drama
Date: 9-Oct-2002
Question: I am right now working in Software Industry. I have done my 3 years diploma in Computers after SSC. But I am more interested in Dance, music composition, drama writing & other related activities. I am looking out some professional courses for understanding drama or workshops where I can learn drama. I have lots of ideas for drama & stories but to put on paper is little difficult to me. Where I can learn professionally? Please reply me early.
Answer: It's very interesting but do not get entrapped.
  • First step is to evaluate whether the interest is at Hobby level or at Profession level. Is it grown in to you now or you were always interested? Is it that you 'want' or is it that you do? Take things in steps to succeed.
If you have participated in drama in school? College? Or now in the company? How about forming a culture club in your organization? (Contact the HR for this. But keep work and leisure separate.)
  • If answer to all or some questions is yes, take step 2. All cities have local theater groups. Look at local papers or visit the local Theaters and ask for contacts of the group. Meet them and work out with them so that you may be able to participate. They will also evaluate your talent.
As far as the professional courses are concerned, the local Kala Academies should be contacted. References can be had from the theaters in your city. As far as your ideas on drama etc. are concerned, they will remain ideas unless you write them down. Once you have written it, you may title it as a 'scene' or theme or a complete drama. If you write stories, what do you write on: Social reforms, love and relationship, children. You may write these and get them published. You may then find if it is worthwhile to shift hobby in to your profession.
