Subject: MBA from American University after graduation using Distance learning.
Date: 26-Aug-2008
Question: I am doing my first year in BS(Information Technology) through distance education programm from kuvempu university.

a) I want to know after completing this course am i eligible to take up a regular MBA classes from university in USA. I want to study aviation management from EMBRY RIDDLE or AUBURN UNIVERSITY.
b)I discontinued from studies in the year 2003, Due to personal tragedy. Since then i am working, Does EMBRY RIDDLE or AUBURN UNIVERSITY will consider a 3-year distance education degree course with work experience.

Answer: The validity of the degree acquired through correspondence is the same as that of a regular degree, as long as the basic eligibility requirements are satisfied. Moreover, if the distance education is undertaken along with some practical work experience, you fill in the gap for the prospective employer.

But to enter into an American University you need to clear your GMAT. Average marks demanded for MBA entry vary from school to school. A high GMAT score is particularly important for those applying to US business schools. If an American school states 650 as a minimum, it means 650. It is not worth applying with 600. Even Harvard has finally come around to including the GMAT in its entry criteria.

So if you can do the needful, you can get admission there.

All the best!
