Subject: BE (Electronics). Confused about what to do?
Date: 30-Sep-2007
Question: Respected Sir/Ma'am,

I am final year BE-Electronics student & I have got a placement in a reputed software company which is not my field & they will be giving training to us. I have maintained 60% & above my aggregate.

My question is:

  1. Since the IT industry is booming, Is it good to join this company?
  2. If suppose I join the company, what are the latest softwares that I need to look out so that I can do some homework before joining?
  3. I wanted to know the options of career to join a company with my field(ELECTRONICS)? Which are those company's & what would be the post?
  4. Is it possible to do MBA after sufficient job experience ie after 2 years? What would the specialization be?
  5. Can I jump from IT Industry to ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY? If yes, then through which link/ post/qualification?
All these questions are really making me confused & this is also because many friends are giving different ideas like do MBA, MS etc.
Answer: Congratulations for your placement in a reputed software company!

You seem to be quite unsure of yourself and what you want to do. As for joining the software company is concerned you can definitely take the plunge. You can think of doing courses like ERP, SAP, C-DAC which would help you in the long run both in the field of IT and Electronics .You can think of doing an MBA later with experience from any of the IIM's, XLRI, MDI or ISB through their Executive programmes.

Best wishes
