Ask a Question

Subject: Doing Company Secretary and confused about the future.
Date: 3-Oct-2007
Question: Dear sir,

I require your urgent advice on the following:

I am currently pursuing the company secretary course and have appeared for one group of its final examination which is the only group left in my course after which I shall qualify as a Company Secretary.(results awaited)

At the time of joining the course and all the way till my final examination I was going about the course and my future but have been questioning myself about the same since a last few months.

I want to know the scope of the Company secretary in the corporate sector and the employment oppurtunities which it offers, the work actually carried out by Company Secretaries and the real work opportunities of a Company Secretary in the current Indian scenario.

What are really growth opportunities (work wise, financial, designation) in the current Indian scenario?

Currently I am working with a Company Secretary in practice but want to shift to the corporate sector after qualifying. I have also joined law and am in the final year for the bachelors degree in law.

Kindly advice at the earliest.

yours truly

Nirmal

Answer: A CS is the in-house legal advisor for a company as they have a grasp of the company's financial policies. He is the link between the Board of Directors and the share holders, governmental and other regulatory bodies. As you are also pursuing a law degree it would give you a leverage over the others. In recent times, the rapid corporatisation has increased the demand for Company Secretary's in corporate functions as well. You are well equipped to enter the job market with a bang, be confident of all your moves and you will have opportunities your way.

All the best!
