Question: Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a 20 years old (Indian) male and I am very zealous to join merchant
navy. I had commerce in 12th so I cannot go for cadet, therefore I am willing
to go for deck rating. I went to B.P marine which is the best, but they rejected
me for I have a stammering problem and have given me time of 4 months if I
can correct it then they'll take me otherwise I can do their saloon rating
course.
1) So sir, should I do this course?
2) And what will be my job like?
3) Are their any promotion opportunities in this?
4) And what will be my pay?
As sir I am going in navy for I can work for 2 or 3 years and till
then I can save good amount of money, and from it I want to go to study abroad.
I have given my 2nd year B.com exam and I will go to the ship only after I
complete my graduation so that I can go for any post graduation course abroad.
Therefore sir I need your advise that is my plan going to work out?
And should I go for this saloon rating course? as I have to work only for
2-3 years( depending on the pay) I am in great mental stress and I desperately
need your help. Thank you. |

Answer: Thanks for sharing your problem. It is serious and therefore the stress.
Lets take first things first: Stammering. This will impair performance
any where. I know excellent technical people having such problems getting
rejected, as one day, they will get to interact with clients and that will
not be positive. So before you do any thing, correct this problem. This
is a weakness that can ONLY go with scientific help from a speech therapist.
Do not waste time. Start now.
You are 20 and by the time you graduate you will be 21 and then you want
to work for 3 years, that makes you 24. Then you plan to go abroad and study.
If you work for 3 years and your saving per month is 10,000 then you will
have Rs 3.6 Lacs, and divide that with Rs 60 you will have $ 6000 only.
This is not the kind of money that will buy you education. Thus you should
aim for either some other job and work for say one year to earn your tickets.
When you are abroad, any way you have to work and study, so why waste two
years here when you can spend that time abroad.
Your counsel. |
