Answer: The CBI has 4 different categories of officer grade posts. At the lowest rung on the ladder is the DSP(Deputy Superintendent of Police) which is the only point of direct recruitment to the CBI through the UPSC. The others are SP, DIG and finally the IG or Commissioner of Police. These posts are filled by IPS officers on deputation or promotion.
Direct recruitment to CBI is at the Sub-Inspector, Asst.Public Prosecutor and Senior Public Prosecutor are appointed through various competitive exams conducted by the Staff Selection Commission.
For sub inspector one has to be a graduate between 18-25 yrs, height should be 5'6" and chest 32'(+2"). Written test in English and GK. For APP and SPP one needs to have LLB degree with 5 and 10 yrs experience respectively.
