Subject: Career Opportunities for I.T. Professional
Date: 21-Aug-2002
Question: I am Shiha Dey. I am working in the I.T. industry for the past 10 years now in the training sector. I was previously teaching software products like ASP, VB, Oracle, etc. Now a days I am involved in teaching Linux and Solaris. I am a certified CNE and Solaris Administrator. I am looking for a break from the training industry.

Please suggest me the various fields that I can upgrade myself to and develop my career path. I am not averse to further studies for furthering my career.
Answer: I think you should look at job enrichment rather than a job change. If you move out you lose what you have gained in so many years. I suggest you do some small projects side by side of your teaching: Be it a application product related to your teaching. It will bring in refinement in teaching and also satisfy your-self esteem to achieve more. Gradually you may put more stress on the new work and make a transition.
