Question: I
am a chemical graduate (B.Tech) from a reputed institute and has just
completed my degree. I have been searching for jobs related to my
field(chemical/pharma/chem consultancy) but have been unable to tap any
opportunity. It seems as if the companies related to my field are interested
in only experienced candidates. And on the top of that, this field offer
very few openings (I have been looking for these type of openings at many
sources). Earlier I was adamant about taking on a core job only (since I
fear that it would be difficult to change into core job once I get an IT
job) and not an IT job just like other batchmates of mine. But now it seems
that I have to take up an IT job for the time being since my family
background force me to take up a job asap. Please advise me on,
- First, How
difficult will it be to shift from IT to core (whenever I find suitable
opportunity).
- Second, where else should I look for a core job(I have been
looking in NewsPapers, online jobsites)!
- Third, how can placement consultants/agencies can help me, how to contact
them and do they charge for consultancy, if yes what are the average rates.
Thanks a lot. |

Answer: I assume that you are good in your studies. Therefore, you love your
subject. Natural and good.
-
Please write out a good resume first of all. Highlight all the good
achievements you had. If you stood amongst high rankers, even if in a
subject, mention it. If you ran, mention it. If you debated, mention it. And
mention properly and not passingly. Expand on your project, highlight any
key findings/contributions. Present in a proper font and style. Mention any
seminar presented, Paper worked on.
-
Pick up language from school certificate for the introduction part. Mention
your interests.
-
It is useful to list a few companies and send requests for training
Stipend/Non Stipend. Understand what products they are in. Present specific
resumes targeting the specific interests in fields.
Best of luck. |
