Subject: Which subject to take in 12th?
Date: 4-Sep-2007
Question: Dear Sir/Madam,
A child has done 10th from ICSE board scoring less marks in
maths.now he is shifted to CBSE school for class 12th and opted for commerce but he is not getting maths as a subject besides this they are giving Information Practices.
We are not much aware of this , so we just wanted to know what are the career prospects after doing 12th.
Thank you.
Answer: In my opinion "Information Practice" is a very apt alternative to Maths for the child. Since the child scored less marks in class X, it wouldn't have been appropriate to un-necesarily burden him/her with Maths, which is quite advanced in XI and XII.
As for the details of "Information Practice" it is another name for "Computer Applications" with the focus on:
To understand the computer application development environment.
To gain programming Skills in GUI (Graphical User Interface) Programming Tool and Database Creation in RDBMS (Relational Database Management System).
To design, program and develop database application using GUI Programming Tool and RDBMS.
To learn database connectivity using Visual Basic as Front-end tool
To develop ability to use the Open Source Technology.
This is a very good combination for someone who is planning to pursue career in Commerce, as now understanding use and Programming of Computer Applications has become a necessity.
Career Options available after Class XII are:
Do Graduation in Commerce and simultaneously pursue a specialization in one of the vocational fields in field on Commerce, like CA/CFA etc.
Opt for BCA and then MCA or Graduation in Commerce and then MCA.
You could choose whether the child should pursue career in field of Commerce or "Information Systems/Computer Applications" in another year and a half, based on the knack and aptitude.
I hope that answers your query. Let me know if you need any more details
