Date: 4-Sep-2007
Question: Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a student of final year of B.TECH. I am persuing my degree in information technology branch. I want to do MBA after my degree. So which MBA program I should prefer after completing it?
Answer: Unlike Engineering, you don't have to specify or choose your field of specialization at the time of entry to MBA program of IIMs or other reputed institutes. All the courses typically run parallel and it just depends on the courses that you choose that you can say if you have a specialization in any specific field.
Typically over 50% of the graduating MBAs choose Marketing as their specialization and then finance and very few choose IT or HR and that depends on the knack you have. I suggest right now you concentrate on preparing for CAT and other reputed MBA programs and you'll have an opportunity to decide the specialization based on elective courses in your second/third semester of MBA. You can take that decision after your first semester as that would give you an idea about your knack.
