Question: I am a teacher in English, teaching higher secondary students(+2 level) for the last 6 years. I possess an MA degree and B.Ed degree. Is it possible for me to switch my job to any corporate training or similar work field? Will the score of IELTS help me in anyway in securing a job other than school teaching? Please suggest.
Answer: Indians working in call centres have a thick accent and need to strengthen their knowledge of English to be globally competitive. It's an interesting situation here. People may read and write good English but spoken English needs improvement. People working in multinational companies, banks and software firms need to improve their English-speaking knack. So there are many institutions working in collaboration with call centers and MNCs to provide English language training to their employees. If you want to switch over the corporate world, you can very well try your English teaching skills in these institutes.

The two main examinations of second-language-learners' English-language skills are IELTS (created by the International English Language Testing Service) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

If you want to improve your skills, then you can attend the workshops organised by TOEFL, which is professional development program for English language teachers. Instructional techniques and strategies provide knowledge and know-how on using the integrated-skills approach to teaching language.

Your IELTS scores would also definitely help you securing such jobs.

All the best
