Subject: Language Course with MBA (Correspondence)
Date: 22-Sep-2008
Question: I am doing an MBA(FINANCE) from ICFAI UNIVERSITY THROUGH CORRESPONDENCE. I AM TOTALLY FREE IN WEEKDAYS. I WANT TO DO SOME COURSE IN WEEKDAYS(LIKE LANGUAGE COURSE). IS IT BENEFICIAL FOR ME TO DO LANGUAGE COURSE WITH MBA
Answer: Language skills can prove to be an important attribute in many professions. A career in foreign language has always been an attractive proposition, especially for those who have a flair for languages. The opportunities are starting from tour operators to interpreter and translators. While interpreters are concerned with interpreting the spoken statements from one language to another, translators have more to do with translating the written documents from one language to another.

With the globalization of Indian economy, multinationals coming to India and more and more Indian companies going for joint ventures abroad, have opened up job scenario for those proficient in foreign languages. Academic qualifications in foreign languages helps in pursuing careers in the areas of tourism, entertainment, public relations and mass communication, international organizations, embassies, diplomatic service, publishing, interpretation and translation etc. International organizations and embassies employ language specialists for secretarial, executive and public relation assignments as well as for translations and interpretations jobs.

Translators are also found to be employed with industries, publishing houses, government and research organisations. Other job opportunities for language specialist lie with the travel and tourism sector, hotel industry, exhibitions and fairs, airlines offices, export agencies, radio stations and trade organisations. Teaching can also be given a thought. For pursuing a career in teaching, a teacher should be a graduate in that foreign language and must have a teaching degree. So if you want a global career you should go for some foreign language and that is why the demand for foreign language skills has increased fivefold

MBA with a foreign language would prove to be quite a beneficial combination, if you get employed with a firm which is looking for placement of a MBA professional abroad on an assignment, but for that you'll have to first get a foothold in the industry and gain some experience.

Knowledge of Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, French and German language is the most in-vogue skill. Awareness of a foreign language can make all the difference at the time of appointment so foreign language classes are now an intrinsic part of corporate training initiatives.

All the best
