Subject: Higher studies after B.Tech
Date: 26-Sep-2008
Question: My ambition is to become a scientist, and to do research. I am doing final B.Tech(electrical).What course I want to do?
Answer: Electrical engineering encompasses all devices and systems that operate electrically. Electrical engineers are integrally involved with the generation, distribution, and electromechanical use of electric power. They also design and produce general electronic circuits and their solid-state components such as integrated circuits and computer chips. Electrical engineering is the largest of all engineering disciplines. This is divided into heavy current (electrical machinery; generating stations and distribution systems) and light current (telecommunications, radar, computers etc.) With the increasing demand for electrical energy, the development in audio and video communication systems, and the automation in industry, electrical engineers have become indispensable to society today.

You can specialise and do ME/M.Tech/M.Sc in the following subjects:
Advanced topics in Power System, Electrical Measurements and Instrumentation, Electrical Machines, High Voltage Techniques, Control Systems together with Software Engineering, Distributed Computer Control, Modeling and simulation, Bio- Instrumentation, Optical Techniques and Fibre Optics in Instrumentation.

After this you can go for PhD in any of above topics.

All the best
