Subject: Advertising?
Date: 2-Jul-2002
Question: I'm a commerce graduate from Mumbai and interested in Advertising especially in logo designing. Actually I have no idea about how to go about. Please kindly give me the overall information regarding advertising. There are diploma courses in advertising but are they really useful or a course in multimedia ? I'm really confused.

I've been suggested to join an advertising company to get practical knowledge but as I have professionally no knowledge about it. Being a fresher with no experience, I doubt if I would get a job but I'm trying. Kindly help, thanking you in anticipation.
Answer: Advertising is an important part of marketing and sales effort. Logo designing is not advertising. It may have a relationship with branding. In the whole business gamut, there is some one who assesses a market demand for some goods or services. Then works on a product or a service. Once ready, an announcement has to be made in a way that people are attracted towards asking for the product and buying it for the perceived satisfaction that they may want to enjoy. This perception of need satisfaction is what Advertising deals with in a large part. Thus the Ad has to be attractive so as to have a recall value, should carry a smart message in relation to the product. It deals with copy, lay out, color, visuals, crisp message and what not.

Go in for a proper MBA and do not waste time in doing Logo design course if you want Advertising as your line. However, if you are interested in graphics, or visuals, or even photography, chose those lines and take diplomas to assist you learn the skills.
