Subject: Career Options in Finance after Manangement degree
Date: 8-Mar-2002
Question: Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a post graduate diploma holder in management with specialisation in
Finance and marketing from an institution of repute (among the top 50
B-schools). I am currently pursuing company secretaries intermediate course.
I had pursued BBM - Marketing prior to my PGDM program and also hold a PG
Dip in Computer Applications, Certification in Financial Accounting (US
GAAP) from brainbench.com, USA. I am looking for an opening in Finance area
at the entry level since I am a fresher.
Kindly advice me if I am going in the right direction and also tell me
whether the market for the freshers is encouraging. Should I need to pursue
further courses related to Finance to secure a decent job.
Answer: It is good to have degrees and qualifications. Finance function is more of
application in practical life. Your understanding of financial institutions'
working, practically, will help you clear interviews.
You are doing too many things in too many directions, though each one can be
justified. Focus on one direction now. Now a days, banks is a good option.
Look for opportunities in that sector.
