Subject: Does CGPA matters?
Date: 8-Jul-2008
Question: I have 6.3 CGPA in MCA. Will the CGPA will matter in getting in IT field?
Answer: As you have said you have 6.3 CGPA in MCA. CGPA is Cumulative Grade Point Average, normally calculated as follows: the credit hours for each subject multiplied by the grade or grade points achieved for each subject is totaled, and then divided by the total number of credit hours registered in all semesters.

You can easily convert this into percentage.Like in some colleges, result is in the form of percentage; in some other colleges, it is in the form of CGPA. So whether you want to pursue further studies in IT or whether you want to take up a job, your CGPA can be converted into percentage first and then you can be given admission according to that or through personal interviews or entrance examination or whatever their criteria is.

Some companies do have a minimum criteria which is typically 60% or equivalent CGPA. While it matters only in few companies as initial entry criteria, in long run, you ability to do a certain job outweighs everything else.

All the best
