Subject: Job change with 6 years experience in IT industry after MCA and diploma in Networking
Date: 5-Mar-2003
Question: >Dear Sir/Madam,
I am 32 and I have experience for 6 years in IT industry. I have completed my MCA degree and also diploma in Networking. But when I apply to any Company I am not getting any reply from them. What's the reason behind it. I am trying to shift my interest towards the Networking area coupled with C++ programming as I am presently a VB programmer. I have experience in JAVA programming. I need some guidance in presenting my resume and also facing the interview. Thank you.
Answer: There are many reasons. Many companies are not recruiting. The requirements may be there but they are over cautious and are very focused in what they are hiring for. It may just be that your profile may not be suiting. Further, your resume may not be reflecting your experience properly. Thirdly, the companies are looking for multi skilled persons.

So you need to expand your technical base. Read our article on writing better resume. Apply in more companies than what you may be doing just now. Have patience. In interviews, your computer fundamentals and depth of programming knowledge coupled with awareness of interlinking with other technologies, databases etc exhibition of very high level of energy shall help in interviews.

Your counsel.
