Subject: MBA after P.G. diploma in Materials Management
Date: 4-Nov-2002
Question: I am trapped in a situation where I am unable to find any suggestion regarding doing M.B.A. after P.G. diploma in Materials Management. I am planning to opt for colleges like:
  1. NIMC (Calcutta)
  2. IIMM (Indian Institute of Materials Management) Pune
  3. Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (Pune) for doing my MBA with specialization in Marketing & Finance.
Should I opt for these colleges for doing my MBA? Will I get a good job after doing this course, as I have already done P.G. diploma in Materials Management with first class from Faculty of Management Studies (Jabalpur). Thank you.
Answer: The use of a good college is to leverage its name to launch one-self into a good company. It seems that you have some how concluded that Finance or Marketing is the right answer. If you get in to IIMs or niche colleges, they certainly help you. But pitched against other candidates from the college, you will perhaps stand to disadvantage as the years spent in MM will only perhaps go against you rather than for. MM is any way different line from Fin or Marketing. Real answer lies within your own self.
