Answer: There are number of job opportunities for postgraduates in biotechnology today. Job prospects are available in drug and pharmaceutical research, public funded laboratories, chemicals, environment control, waste management, energy, agriculture, food processing and bio-process industries.

Most biotechnologists find employment on a large scale in research laboratories run by the government of India. There are plenty of opportunities available in Biotechnology field. You can be a Research Scientist, Teacher, Marketing manager, Science Writer, Bioinformists, Quality Control Officer or Production in-charge in the Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industry. Analyst (Venture Capitalist) Environmental / Safety Specialist. Biotechnology companies require Corporate Executives with business/management Degrees.

A graduate in Biotechnology can get job in Government sectors such as Universities and Colleges, Research institutes or at Private Centers as Research scientists/assistants. With the progress in economy and industries, almost every sphere of life will absorb a biotechnologist whether it is agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, careers in biotechnology tend to be related to Research and Development, Quality Control, Clinical Research, Manufacturing and Production, Patent Administration, Management and Administration.

But it would be better if you go for post graduation in this field. You can do M.Sc./ M.Tech. You can also pursue specialized courses at research level. Biotechnology offers PG courses, which you can opt for after graduating in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Microbiology. After your PG, you can go in for PhD after which you can go in for Post-doctoral research.

If you would like to go to the Corporate segment, you should do MBA.
